  • detox week 16   17 years 13 weeks ago

I understand how you feel. You can do the detox with fewer of the supplements. They are suggested but not at all mandatory. Best is to do lots of "green juices" as these are super nutritious, and this will take the place of needing to do the greens powder. As for the fiber, it helps some people overcome hunger when doing a detox but again, it's totally not mandatory. If you are constipated I do suggest it but otherwise you can skip it or take it less often. I have fasted on a number of occasions just with juicing and no supplements (yes I did do enemas) and I got very good results. Do what you can but don't stress about purchasing things if you can't afford them- it's perfectly ok.

  • Raw Goat's milk   17 years 13 weeks ago

Many people who can't tolerate cow milk do ok with goat milk. Best is to test each of the foods you are concerned about separately- goat milk, goat cheese, yogurt....test each on a separate day alone- you might need to wait until the other food testings are out of the way to do it.
You may be able to resume eating the cow milk once you have been off it a while and your intestinal integrity is strengthened...

  • totaly went off plan!   17 years 13 weeks ago

Do not fret too much- it does not sound like all was lost. Planning is very important though! If you were able to still avoid the allergenic foods during the period you were "off" then just pick up where you were. If you ate those and a significant amount of junk (which it doesn't sound like you did) then I'd start again, because its very important to be free of the allergenic foods for a few weeks before the re-introduction phase.
    Good luck!

  • holding water   17 years 13 weeks ago

If it is truly edema, I would feel more comfortable with you seeing your physician to determine the cause- edema does not come from drinking too much water, though...
Things you might want to try are dry skin brushing with a natural bristle brush (this stimulates lymph flow), watching your salt intake, and increasing your raw foods. A rebounder (a mini-trampoline like apparatus you jump on for exercise) is also excellent.
But again, if it is truly edema, you should have it checked out.

  • week six questions   17 years 13 weeks ago

Follow your intuition and do what feels right to you- I would watch the overall carbs more than getting too obsessed with the PT and CT specific food details, but it's up to you.

    Dr. Winnie,

I have edema in my legs that won't go away. Could I be drinking too much water?

    Thanks,

  • Going Well For A Few and Bang Its all over   17 years 14 weeks ago

It is very common for many of us to go to food when we are feeling sad, lonely, etc...the problem is the food doesn't help and we end up feeling so much worse when we have to deal with any weight gain that may result. Each day you have a new opportunity for things to be different. Find other things that give you pleasure besides food. Exercise, hobbies, playing with children and pets...the list goes on and on. I recently took up knitting and I find it relaxing and fun when I am feeling stressed about other things. It sounds like your husband is having a hard time and that is hard on you, so take care of yourself. We are here for you if you want to talk more.

  • Metabolic Cleanse??   17 years 14 weeks ago

It is a supplement designed to be taken while you are following a healthy diet to aid in gut repair and detox of the intestinal tract...
    Hope this helps,

  • holding water   17 years 14 weeks ago

    Karen,
What makes you feel that you're "holding water" exactly? You feel bloated? Dandelion leaf (not dandelion root) can be an effective natural diuretic without harmful side effects. I feel its best taken as an herbal infusion- which is a long soaking of the dried herb in water...

  • Pilates - Caloric Value   17 years 14 weeks ago

I am unsure about this- you might want to do a google search to see if you can find the answer. I don't think it's a huge calorie burner but it's definitely valuable for making you stronger...

  • Gluten Testing   17 years 14 weeks ago

I did try the quinoa today and did not react to it. However, I did feel like super full after just a couple of bites. I ate a small bit of everything as was fuller than normal. Is that considered a reaction?

Let me know on that ALCAT test :)

I will find out from Dr. Pearsall what the story is with the ALCAT test kit.

  • Chocolate?   17 years 14 weeks ago

Yes that sounds like an oversight in the menus- cocoa should indeed still be avoided at the point you're at in the program...sorry about the mistake.

  • Gluten Testing   17 years 14 weeks ago

If you feel you reacted to brown rice, avoid it for a while and then test it again. Proceed with the other testings because reacting to that does not necessarily imply you will react to the other foods. It may be isolated and it may not. Doing the Alcat test may indeed be a good idea for you, though- I will speak to Dr. Pearsall and find out when it is going to be available.

I admit I am not familiar with either of these products so I will contact Dr. Pearsall with this question and give you a response as soon as possible.

  • decaf coffee   17 years 14 weeks ago

Its not horrible to drink it or anything, provided you can find an organic water-process variety it 's probably ok to have a cup every now and then. It 's not an optimal health enhancing beverage, though, and generally people add low quality milk or cream and sugar and we definitely want you to stay away from these. If you absolutely need a hot beverage, look into the herbal coffee substitutes- some of these are quite tasty and help people break the coffee addiction.

  • week four questions   17 years 14 weeks ago

I am sorry for the delay in answering your question.
If you don't like poached eggs, your idea sounds just find.
You should be able to find some form of natural buckwheat, but if you can't, you can substitute brown rice or millet or quinoa.
As for cheese, if you can't find any raw cheese, we feel you should just skip it. Cheese really shouldn't be eaten unless its raw, though goat or sheep cheese may be fine. Plain organic yogurt or kefir could be a substitute too- if dairy works for you, these are two forms that, though not raw, are healthful and generally widely available. As long as you're not sensitive to it, you could have one of these a few times per week.

I can totally relate to all of these stories. I was chubby since I was a child and only was "average" sized when I was in my 20s and was a smoker. But having lost and gained weight many times, I finally in 2004 began with Weight Watchers. I didn't really believe it would work but went with my friend for support. Over 2 years I lost 65 lbs and was at my goal weight. For me it was 160 lb at 5'7" (I am 56 yrs old now). I stayed that way and weighed in every month for 18 months. Each month it got harder and harder to stay at goal weight but I did. I don't know if it was the diet or my body adjusting that made it so difficult. I began dating someone during this last year and also got a very stressful job. Over Thanksgiving and through Christmas there was lots of stress and I very quickly put on 8 lbs. I am at the place where I need to take drastic action to get back on track. I'm having a hard time getting started with Enlita even though it is very closely aligned with what I believe. (natural) I thought maybe it would help to write about the emotional aspects of weight gain for me in the hopes that I can get back on track. Somehow I translated my personal problems into weight gain. Sometimes I just feel like I'm always starting over and I know that sugar and wheat are the offenders. Once I get off those, life is good and I immediately lose that bloat. I have started ice skating and doing leg exercises to build more muscle. Thanks for any feedback. This is a good place to share. • Seasonal adaptions?   17 years 15 weeks ago

I agree with you, Mamacabbage, on just staying within the parameters of the program and subbing in other foods or meals. We have been doing just the same thing as your family-protein with a steamed veggie, salad or fruit. In doing this, I have also tailored the menu to better suit our geographic area and seasonal food availability, which pleases my family immensely. So I appreciate your feedback and suggestions!

I hope to see Enlita figure out some way of doing this within their wonderful menus, however. Perhaps this discussion will help facilitate that addition!

    Smiles,
    Dawn

  • Seasonal adaptions?   17 years 16 weeks ago

I have found that some of the recipes are great for this time of year. We live on the WA coast, so it's not terribly cold here most of the time, though we've had hard freezes the last couple days. Smoothies have been fine for us for breakfast, since we tend to eat lighter in the morning anyway.

I found the crockpot chicken bean stew, the middle eastern chickpea stew, and the lamb lentil stew to be great for this cold weather, as well as the basic crockpot chicken. Also, diverging from the menus and having very simple steak, chicken breast, or chicken thigh baked or broiled along with some steamed vegetables has been a quick, easy, warming meal.

  • Quinoa and Black Bean salad   17 years 16 weeks ago

    Dr. Winnie Abramson,

I did eat the Roast beef with the Quinoa yesterday, I even measured it out to 2 ounces. After I ate the extra coconut cream I felt fine and needed nothing else.

This morning when I had the salad for breakfast, I had the same feeling, although I didn't have any roast beef with it. I was full, but still wanted....something. Anyway, I again ate a tablespoon of coconut cream and that seemed to satiate me.

Would this be considered a sensitivity?

    Thanks!

  • Okay not to follow the menus?   17 years 16 weeks ago

What you are doing is absolutely fine and it sounds like you are doing great! The menus and recipes are there for those people that want and need that type of structure. But it is just fine to make your own meals- just make sure to follow the parameters of the program.

  • Quinoa and Black Bean salad   17 years 16 weeks ago

Add a few ounces of turkey or roast beef and some allowable mayo or additional oil to the meal and see how you do.
