  • Looking for friends and support   16 years 12 weeks ago

Dawn, I'm glad you found this thread too! It would be great to have/give support to each other!

I just started in the beginning of January and have had decent progress. I am starting week 7 tomorrow and looking very forward to spelt!

What week are you on? Are you having good results?

    Dawn,

I used King's spicy kimchee. I never liked the taste of any kind of kimchee or sauerkrout before so this is a whole new thing for me. I don't know if I'd like it alone or not but am more willing to try!

How do you make your kimchee? I'd love to try it!

I am glad I looked at this older thread! I would love some support as well and it seems we are all of a like mind in this group.

I would love to be there for any of you and would appreciate the same in return.

How long have you all been with this program and what results have you experienced?

    Warm regards,
    Dawn

    Hey Karen,

Did you make your own Kimchee or buy store bought?

We make our own in a large crock, but it never seems to last very long. We all love it here, so I want to know what brands everyone likes and where they are finding them, as a back up! :)

One thing we all fight over is the juice left over once the veggies are gone. Drink it-or put it in a soup-it's wonderful!

    Warm regards,

    Hello all!

Dee, I am getting ready to start week 6 of the program and I totally agree with you on your tastes becoming much more sensitive. I am not even tempted anymore to eat junk!

I'd love to see a nice support group grow out of this program as well. I know I need it, and I especially am interested in members being of like minds and knowledge base. We are all learning so much through Enlita and Mercola, and I want to keep it going!

    Warm regards,

  • Raw Honey   16 years 13 weeks ago

Can you share what brands are in question/reputable? Sources on the health issues? (I am so glad I asked!)

I have a small stock of it (4-5 bottles), but would not hesitate to toss it if it was a questionable brand. I AVOID toxins at every opportunity!!

I hope my bees produce an abundance of honey this year!

    Thanks for your reply,

    Dawn

Dr. Pearsall worries that most agave producers do not do a lot of testing of their products and has heard that occasionally they can be contaminated with toxins. She was particularly dismayed when she heard about a link between agave and sponaneous abortion.
So that is why we don't recommend it a lot. If you love it and are not concerned about the above, you can continue to use it in small amounts, but I would buy a repudable brand.

Some natural foods companies promise that they use no MSG but others don't and there may be a small amount of MSG in all flavoring "extracts"...
I would stick to homemade or store-bought organic free-range chicken stock and skip the boullion.

I just started, but I know what you mean. After eating organic dark chocolate for awhile, I turn my nose up at any commercially made chocolate. It tastes like wax! So does that instant cocoa garbage! My favorite is using organic non alkalized cocoa in almond milk with raw agave nectar. Yum! :D

I hope I'll eventually be able to add it back to my diet (I'm just starting week one). It's my last indulgence left.

I have a question about this topic. Agave is lower on the glycemic scale than honey, so I would think it would be a good substitution for honey (although you are not getting the many other health benefits that you get with honey).

Is there some reason you are not recommending the agave very highly?

Curious minds want to know :)

  • Okay not to follow the menus?   16 years 13 weeks ago

    Welcome to the program!
Since you already have some experience with food sensitivities, you are ahead of the game. Sorry to hear you have so many foods you need to avoid though. Hopefully through the program you will be able to strenthen your gut and immune system and adrenals and heal some of your food allergies. Or they may just be fixed for you- we'll have to see.
You husband's idea sounds ok- or skip the shakes and just make sure you are having some form of protein, some raw foods, a bit of healthy carbs, and good fats with each meal. Eat what you can from the menus and make substitutions where necessary. Use the shopping lists as a reference, skip what you need to, and fill in where necessary. Keep in touch and let us know how you're doing!

Yes apparently great minds do think alike!

  • Raw Honey   16 years 13 weeks ago

You could just use stevia, but yes, agave would be ok for you. Make sure to use as little as possible as sweets should be minimized.

  • Okay not to follow the menus?   16 years 13 weeks ago

Thanks for posting this. I just signed up today and am going over the menus for week one. I had an ALCAT back in 2004 and I'm still allergic to most of the foods on the list even after avoiding them for six months. I'm allergic to a large number of foods listed: beef (although I can eat bison), pork, carrots, eggplant, bananas, and cayenne to name a few--

My husband suggested a meal replacement drink made with whole frutits/veggies/whey protein with a big salad for the two recipes I can't tweak (no grain or soy in the drink--I'm allergic to soy and gluten anyway). Think that would be ok?

I'm hoping to shop on Friday and start my life-changing adventure on Saturday!

Also, when can I start drinking raw milk/yogurt/kefir again?

    Thanks for this great website!

We've been able to do the smoothies more (even though it is still cold here) by just not using ice or frozen fruit in the smoothie.

Chasing that with a nice cup of Matcha tea has been tried here, too. Great minds think alike!

  • WK 4 Having Sensitivity Symptoms,Should I Do The Challenges?   16 years 13 weeks ago

Ok got the picture with the mayo! You ate a lot! It does have a bit of soy in it- we have to remove it from the early part of the menus. And yes, the cocoa was a typo in week 2.
Glad you will get the test- sometimes it is just much easier than trying to do the elimination/challenge when you have confusing things going on...you may have multiple sensitivities and that just makes things quite complicated!
Sweet potatoes are not a nightshade but regular potatoes are, so avoid those. Sweet potatoes generally don't cause problems, but you never know. Eat as few foods as you can manage until after you get the test results- but do make sure to eat - don't starve yourself. Eat plenty of good fat with your foods.
    Keep me posted,
    Dr. Winnie Abramson

  • WK 4 Having Sensitivity Symptoms,Should I Do The Challenges?   16 years 13 weeks ago

Hi Dr Abramson, thanks so much for your fast reply. Yeah, probably not the home, since I've been having this kind of respiratory symptom for as long as I can remember.

About the Vegenaise, ummm, well I gotta confess I"m a major mayo addict and so with all those meat/salmon roll ups I went through at least 1/2 a large bottle in those first 3 weeks! :) I also had a smoothie last weekend in which it said I could use chocolate or vanilla protein powder - naturally I chose chocolate! Was that a typo to have cocoa in Week 2 menu?

Yes I can do the 3 day menu suggestions you made except man I hate lamb so I'll use beef, chicken, salmon - pan fried or sauteed in coconut oil. Regarding the sweet potatoes, I suspect I'm allergic to tomatoes so since they're both in the nightshade family do you think I should also avoid the entire nightshade family for these 3 days? If so, substitute what?

I made an appt for today to get the Elise test through my family doctor. Want to know the results?

Thank you so much for you help with this!

  • WK 4 Having Sensitivity Symptoms,Should I Do The Challenges?   16 years 13 weeks ago

Something is definitely going on for you but as you mentioned, the respiratory symptoms could be related to your home. I would not expect you would be experiencing this from a little vegenaise a few weeks back but it is possible you are sensitive to something else that is in the menus.
I don't want you to have to go back to week 1 to figure it out though. Any chance you could just do a really basic even more hypoallergenic diet of just meats (lamb is probably best), sweet potatoes, a few veggies (keep it as simple as possible), and maybe pears for 3 days before you jump into the food testings?? I do want you to be a bit more symptom free. I wish we had the ALCAT tests in an then I would just recommend that for you but I don''t believe they are in stock yet.

  • Eggs   16 years 13 weeks ago

I want chickens- I am jealous! Someday soon, I think...
Re: smoothies...I usually dislike them in the winter but lately find that as long as I'm not headed outside right after I drink one, I really enjoy them. I balance out the coldness factor with some warm matcha green tea and it works for me somehow...

  • Eggs   16 years 13 weeks ago

We love the raw eggs in smoothies, when it is not to cold to have a smoothie, that is! The recipe for Healthy Egg Nog is delicious! I add the whey healthier vanilla flavor to it and this helps to thicken it up and make it creamy, and use raw cows milk rather than the alternative milks.

I am glad to hear that the raw eggs are probably OK for me. I raise my own organic free range chickens and they lay wonderful eggs for us, so this is good news!

  • Eggs   16 years 13 weeks ago

Yes it is very possible to do fine with the raw and not the cooked eggs. Cooking changes the protein and it is not agreeing with you. I find raw eggs work best in smoothies- beyond that is is hard to find a way to eat them. So you'll have to substitute a different protein for cooked eggs from now on. Feel free to re-test in a few weeks, though I can understand why you would avoid this if you felt terrible after the first testing...If adding raw eggs to smoothies make sure to use the best quality eggs you can find and also you can just use only the yolks most of the time- this is the more nutritious and less allergenic portion.
Sounds like you are doing very well and learning vital info about how these foods work for you. Keep up the good work,
    Dr. Winnie Abramson

  • Recipies   16 years 14 weeks ago

Glad you loved the recipe and that you are starting to like kimchee. You are always free to add seasonings and condiments that you like, provided they don't have unhealthy ingredients in them... no need to suffer with bland food!

  • amino acids   16 years 14 weeks ago

You could eliminate taking them in the a.m. and just do the afternoon and evening, and see how you feel, or try taking them just in the evening. Another option is to take the 5HTP alone at night and try combining the Gaba with tyrosine in the am and afternoon.
Let us know what you decide to do and how it goes.
    Dr. Winnie Abramson

  • amino acids   16 years 14 weeks ago

    Dr. Winnie,

I was taking the recommended dosage on the chart shown for that week. 1 5HTP and 1 GABA mid morning, and 1 each mid afternoon. Then at night I took 2 5HTP and 1 GABA.

    Thanks!

  • amino acids   16 years 14 weeks ago

Discontinue them for now. Tell me how much you are taking and when and I'll try to adjust the schedule and dose.
