Hi Enlita community

I chose this program because I want to truly learn how to care for the body my Creator gave me, not be a robot going every which way.

I would like to have some people to bounce ideas around and also know there is someone there when I feel like I might falter. I will do the same as well.

I have never "blogged" or done the chat room thing. Help me out if you can.

Many thanks

Anyway, I am better about the diet for now. I hit 20 lbs this week :D So that is a big motivator to stick with it. But I am like you, I can't go out and stay on plan. I am getting very tired of salads and need to take a break from them for a little while. The other side of that is without the salads I can't get enough raw veggies in. I hope your hives are going away quickly. I can't stand to itch, that has got to be the worst. Whenever I have any type of reactions to medications, I usually end up with them. YECH! On the flip side, what a great reason to eat healthy!! Look on the bright side, your body is insisting that you be healthy, so your optimal choice is to.......eat great food that nourishes you. You have a built in diet regulator LOL. So here's to you and your great defense against the evil food powers. You can do this and feel wonderful!!!! No more hives for you!! Have a great day!!!!!Karen

Karen,
I don't know how this post slipped by me! Sorry!
Wow! I sure wish we were getting your moisture! Colorado is so very dry, well at least where I am in Colorado! There's plenty up in the mountains. Anyway, I hope your weather has been better for you and all that wonderful snow has melted.

20 Pounds! WOW! I am so proud of you! Way to go! You are in week 10 now, right? That's right on track with 2 pounds a week. :D It sure does lift my spirits to hear that you are doing so well on this program! I know I feel better, but I still haven't lost any, size-wise. You just must be on cloud 9!!!

How are you doing with salads and veggies? I know you said you were tired of salads. I *love* fresh veggies, but it makes it tough in the winter for me to eat so many cold things. Seems like I am cold from the inside out when I repeatedly do that, and then I have a heck of a time ever getting warm. That said, I have dragged out my dehydrator, juicers, and all my raw uncook books and I am trying to get more into that again. It has been all packed up for a while, as we are living in a trailer while we are building our house. There's really not room for gadgets and gizmos in this little trailer, but I need to break up the monotony a bit.

Thanks for the encouraging words, Karen. I hope your weight loss continues and you have some more good news to report!

falling off the diet

Just want to chime in here that these experiences happen to us all, even me! I had a bunch of parties to go to last week and because I went to each one very hungry, I didn't make great choices. On Saturday I had a karate event followed by a huge potluck. My contribution to the potluck was a great salad, so I ate that, and some deli meats which weren't organic but were the "cleanest option" there, and then I had a few handfuls of pita chips with hummus. The pita chips were what I should have avoided because when I eat wheat I want more, and sure enough I wanted pizza that night, has one slice, and felt perfectly exhausted and awful Sun. morning. That afternoon I attended a big catered party where I did ok food-wise (lots of salad and some fish and rice) but then ate the apple cobbler and ice cream because it was placed in front of me and everyone was saying it was so good (it was!). Monday morning, again, I felt exhausted. I've been back on track all week and again feeling like my energetic self- planning to stay away from those wheat and sugar indiscretions!

I am sorry, Tammy, that you had such a rough week! I am glad to see, however, that you are getting "right back on that horse"! I am sure your perseverance will reward you in the end!

I have been thinking of starting over myself . . . I actually felt better when all allergens were out of my diet!

I'll be rooting for you, Tammy!

"You can do it!"

Hi everyone!
I fell of the wagon this week. I've found that if I eat any grains or sweets at all, I will go nuts over them. It was pizza and fun food all week! I gained the weight back I lost in the first couple of weeks. Also, like Dawn, I've been reacting--my body gets itchy all over and I get some bumps on my hands and legs (hives?). But I'm looking on the bright side. I've learned not to eat these foods in a way that's likely to stick!

I'm starting over at week one (so I can do the whole 4 weeks of elimination) and I'm bound and determined to hit it hard this time!

I'm glad the weather is getting better. I need to get out more. :D

Just checking in . . .

How are you all doing?

I hope you all are back on/still on track and doing well! Have you noticed your endurance level increasing for exercise? The weather is starting to warm up here in patches, so I have been getting out and walking, riding my bike, and working outside more. That feels GOOD!

I have fallen of the diet, suffered for it, and am back on track! Friday night I had one slice of cheese pizza at a meeting (felt AWFUL all night digestively as well as HIVES!). THEN, the next day was the El Paso County Assembly and I went to a fast food place and had a STROMBOLI along with one bite of cheesecake. Neither tasted good at all, so I don't know why I bothered, but I did. Felt terrible all the rest of the day, hives on my arms and back, itchy swollen eyes, and THIRSTY like crazy. I need to get MUCH BETTER at having things to take with me to eat while I am out. I am terrible at that!

Once our house is done being built, things will be easier. For now, I have to rely on what I can make in a crockpot or grill.

What's up with all of you? I hope spring is coming to your area and with it warm sunny days!

Karen-

I did pretty good this week, although I am not on the menu/testing schedule at all. I guess that's OK. We ran into some scheduling problems last week and so I couldn't test oats. I decided to test that this week (yesterday) and I am not going to test for spelt until later. I will still test for corn this week, and I am thinking Friday for that. Have I totally confused you?

I am staying faithful and on the diet guidelines so far, even when we go out. I felt awful after eating a chicken salad, that was supposed to be gluten free and organic at one of my areas premier health food restaurants last week. So on that one, I don't know if I veered off or what, but I felt "off" for a couple of days.

Still no size loss (I have to call it that because I do not own a scale and I am measuring myself by how my clothes fit.). :( But I am remaining vigilant!

I have boosted my exercise up each day, and with the weather warming up, it just plain feels GREAT to get out in the fresh air!

I am glad you got to go out with friends and I hope you enjoyed the evening! Don't beat yourself up over the pizza-I think sometimes you gotta fall off a bit just to remember how good you feel when you get back on.

Anyway-I am still on track even though I am off schedule! :)

I am a member of our local Weston Price Foundation, but I do not know when they have meetings. These talks sounds awesome! I will check into what the meeting schedule is here locally and hopefully be able to attend some good info sessions. Thanks for mentioning that. I could really use the adrenal one!

Here's to seeing less of you in 2008! Cheers!

Have a fabulous day!

Dawn,

How did you do this week? If you read my last post you know I fell off the diet :( I am really going to try to get back on.

I have never had my adrenals checked, but the next Weston Price foundation meeting in April for my area is about adrenal fatigue. Should be quite interesting!

Last Monday I went to a meeting where they talked about intestinal health. It was absolutely fascinating. I am learning soo much.

Let me know how it goes!

Tammy,

I'm not sure if the fucothin is working or not. the weight is coming off very slowly, this week I had some friends call and me and my dh went and met them for drinks. I only had 2 glasses of red wine, but the pizza I think set me back. Now I have this junk in my body and it seems to have triggered something. I can't seem to quit munching. Also, I tested cocoa this week. That was a BIG no-no. I can't have anything sweet in the house. I made the chocolate almond balls which were fantastic, but I have eaten almost all of them and now have gained back 3 pounds. It's so hard for me once I get off the wagon to get back on.

The people at the health food store sain and I read in Jordan Rubin's book Perfect Weight that it does take at least 6 weeks to kick in. I guess it would depend if you want to spend that kind of money. I did however, since this is week 8 for me start losing more than 1 lb a week. In the past 2 weeks I lost 2lbs each week. So, maybe it is working. I dunno!

Re: Adrenals are key

Hi Tammy,

I have been researching a lot of this info for quite a while as well. It was nice to see so much of what my family is moving towards all in one program.

I have only recently (within the last year) had my adrenals checked and my hormones finally looked at appropriately. I don't know if you read it in my other posts, but I am pretty much in the same boat as you. I am trying to reverse my adrenal stress, estrogen dominance, and thyroid imbalance, but I don't have a Dr. right now. It it inspiring that you have had success with turning this around! Thank you for sharing that!

Would you mind sharing your Dr.'s name with me (you can PM me with it if you'd like)?

Thanks Tammy for the great email!

Fucothin

You get a $5 off cupon with your next purchase, so with the sale and the $5 off it wasn't too bad.

Karen,
I've been thinking about using Fucothin too. Let me know if you think it's worth it.

Thanks!

Adrenals are key

Hi Dawn,
I'm only on week 2 but I've known about some of this for a long time. Have you had your hormones and adrenals checked? The reason I ask is because my adrenals were totally burnt out and I couldn't lose weight no matter how hard I tried. I also had low progesterone and thyroid--and a sugar addiction. The doc told me they were all related. I went on an allergy elimination diet and used progesterone cream prescribed by the doc.

It took years (self-induced setbacks due to the sugar addiction), but my cortisol levels are finally normal and I'm losing weight. Of course I'm still at the beginning of the diet here, but back in 2004, I couldn't even drop the water weight everyone said would happen the first week (also a different diet).

Best wishes with you new life. I hope this helps!

Tammy

PS: I used to live in the boonies too--Floyd county, VA. I miss it. There was only one traffic light in the entire county. You would think with all the open land it would be easier to get out and get some exercise, but not when there are no sidewalks or curbs. You risk your life going for a walk!

Karen-
16 pounds is great! Congratulations! You gotta be smiling about that success!

I also have over 100 pounds to lose. I know it will take longer than the June 1st goal date I've set to lose that much. So, there will be the "before the wedding goal" and the "after the wedding goal" LOL :). I want to keep the process realistic and healthy. I am not interested in just losing weight, I want to make forever lifestyle changes. It sounds like you are also thinking along those lines. My clothes fit the same as before, btw. That is actually what I am using as my "measure", as I do not own a scale.

I have not been formally "exercising"-what I have done is to try and step up my daily activities and make them burn more calories for me. I am like you where I have a rough time fitting in an actual workout.

We are building a house right now (final phase, thank the Lord!) so I make every bit of that effort a work out (we are physically the builders, we are not having it built for us.). I park way out in the parking lots, take stairs rather than elevators, etc.
I clean my house using a fast pace and lots of movement.
A lot of my work is sedentary, so I try and break that up with exaggerated movements and brisk walks up and down the hallway
I do not have the funds to join a gym, and I usually cannot tolerate Gyms anyway, because of the chlorine in the pools there. I am allergic to chlorine and even react to just the scent of it.

I live way out in the boonies, so when I get a chance, I love to walk the dirt roads and just take in some fresh air! I have an old knee injury that bothers me, but I sure do love to get out and move! It has been a very cold winter here, and not a lot of opportunities for outside exercise, but spring is right around the corner!

I have a Way Too Busy Schedule, which will lessen some once our house is done sometime in April. I will have at least 2 hours every day at that point that I can devote to working out! And with our house finished, I will have the space to do it. We now live in a tiny trailer while construction is in progress.

I guess what's got me bummed is that the window of time I've set for myself is shrinking. But I do feel much better, so that *is* a good thing! I am discouraged, but not giving up!

I have purchased both the Nature's Slimming Herbs and then the BioThin when that came out. I haven't taken either one yet, though. I worry a bit about taking too many things! I am taking things to reverse my Adrenal Stress, things to clear estrogen and balance hormones, and Multivitamins/krill . . . it's no wonder I am never hungry! I am filling up on supplements! LOL!

Thanks for your encouragement, friend! It is nice to chat with someone who can relate to what you are focusing on on your life. I hope others will join in on our discussion and we can develop a good support network here.

Warm regards,
Dawn

Dawn,

I have lost 16 pounds so far. But I lost 9 of those in the first 2 weeks. So the weight isn't "melting off" like I hoped. I usually have no problems losing weight, but this time has been different. I think one problem for me is I don't have the time right now to exercise sufficiently. I am never home and when I am, I have a million and one things to do. It's just that time of my life I suppose. I plan on getting back to the gym in June when things are less hectic.

I am also trying fucothin. I don't know if it's helping, it's supposed to take 6 weeks to kick in - we'll see what happens. It is pretty expensive, but was on sale at the local health food store and came with Jordan Rubin's new book. You get a $5 off cupon with your next purchase, so with the sale and the $5 off it wasn't too bad.

I'm sorry you haven't lost anything, have you been exercising? How are your clothes fitting? When I exercise there is alot of times I won't lose, because I build muscle. If you are feeling great, then that is really half the battle, remember this is a life style change! I am probably losing also because I really have about 100 pounds to lose.

Keep your chin up, it WILL happen!!

Karen,

I am just a week behind you, starting week 6 tomorrow. As far as results go, I don't feel that I have lost any weight at all. I do, however, feel much better, and I am thinking that is because I am discovering so many food sensitivities and avoiding those foods.

I am very bummed about the weight not coming off yet, but I am holding on to the hope that it will soon.

How much weight have you lost and did you do so right away or did it take awhile?

Take care,
Dawn

just getting started

Hi, I am just getting started with trying to lose weight, and also trying to figure out my way around this website, how to blog, where to find the lessons, etc. I would like to lose 15 pounds that I have been stuck at for years. I like the philosophy of this not being "a diet" but a transformation in the way I think about food, and a change of lifestyle. I've been walking more, eating less, being careful about what I eat, . . but sure could also use some support. Karen

I've never "blogged" either

It would be great to have someone to "chat" with about this program and bounce ideas around with. I've discovered I can't follow the plan as well as I thought I could. How is it going for you?

I don't know how much I can help you with this "blog" thing. It's my first time too.
