First I want to apologize because I did not see some of the earlier threads in this message. Second, please know that we are constantly reviewing and updating the food plan to take your kind of experience into account, and I am sorry if you are struggling a bit with the portions. The goal is to always have healthy food in the house to eat, but the goal is not to get sick of leftovers or have to throw a lot of things away...It sounds like the recipes are definitely making too much for you and I admit they aren't really designed to feed one person. First, we designed them to fit one person but many people complained they were trying to feed their families and it wasn't enough food (the opposite complaint of yours!) so we made all the servings bigger. If you are the only one eating, I urge you to use your instincts when shopping and do not overbuy. That said, it is fine to freeze leftovers and save them for times when you don't feel like or don't have any opportunity for cooking. I hope this helps and please know we are working on how to make the program work for everyone!

Yes skip the quinoa in week 2! I am in the process of correcting mistakes like these, and I am sorry about that!

I ate the week one menu for two weeks because I had so much food and still threw out leftovers! I fell off the wagon the 3rd week which included my birthday (I think it was a combination of sugar from the b'day cake and boredom from having to eat the same foods for so many days in a row).

This week, I decided to go through the menus instead of printing the shopping list. I'm going with week 2 (instead of starting over with week one like I said in an earlier post--I just don't want to eat some of those foods for awhile!). I'm going with week two because I don't want to introduce grains yet after my binge.

I'm buying 1/2 of what I need for the first 4 days (except for the crockpot recipes which I can freeze). Most recipes call for 8 servings. Since we eat a 1/2 portion at each sitting, I don't see how I'll use it up. I'm not eating the same thing 16 times in a row! This makes sense for families, but I'm the only one eating this way right now.

I'll evaluate what I have on day 4 and go shopping for the rest of the week. If I run out of the something before then, I'll make an extra trip to the store. It may use extra gas, but it's better than throwing out unused produce.

Since this was posted a couple of months ago, how did you all handle this? Is this still an issue for you?

    Thanks!

  • Week 2 omissions   16 years 7 weeks ago

Non gluten grains are introduced in week 3 but the week two, day five meal plan calls for steamed swiss chard and bean. Quinoa is listed in the recipe but not in the ingredient list to the left. Should we skip the quinoa in week two?

    Thanks!

The testings should be complete after week 9, I believe. Because of the variety of different needs, re-testing items is something that at this point needs to be handled by each individual, but I'll make a note that we should incorporate that re-testing into the program at some point in the future.

    About anti-estrogenic foods:
The Enlita diet is quite high in these, among them: cruciferous veggies, berries, wild fish, grass-fed dairy, organic pastured eggs and meats, raw nuts and seeds....I am not aware of flax promoting estrogen, I think of it as anti-estrogenic, as well...
The foods to stay away from include soy, conventional meats and dairy, omega-6 oils, and our diet avoids these.

By the way, we've restructured the forums a bit, so if we can now limit this forum to Q+A for Enlita staff only, as the title suggests, it would be greatly appreciated! You are welcome to discuss the other topics, including natural progesterone, amongst yourselves in the other forums. Thanks!

    Deb-

    Thanks for the great tips!

I have used glucosamine, and it did help . . . all my *other* joints  , but it didn't seem to help much with the old knee. I used it for 6 months. Maybe I needed to give it more time???

I really am trying to make everything I can, a workout. Frequency and intensity are frustrating me, but I will persevere.

I guess I'll just keep on keeping on!

    Appreciate your input,
    Dawn

I was put on a natural progesterone cream (FemCream) and had really good results with symptom relief. I was then told from several other Dr's that the cream is not the best way to administer progesterone. I was told that it actually accumulates in the fat cells and therefore doesn't deliver an exact dose at all times; sometimes releasing more or less. Two Dr.'s recommended a sub lingual natural progesterone, which is what I went with. I still have slight symptoms, but so far this is working pretty well.

Does anyone have any thoughts on sub lingual progesterone compared to the cream? This is pretty important to me, as I *think* it's my best course of action in reducing my estrogen dominance.

As I am sure you can understand, it is not possible for us to find the cause of your hair loss over the internet, and without knowing the cause it is impossible to recommend a suitable course of treatment. I would be much more comfortable recommending that you see a holistic MD or naturopathic doctor who can help you figure out what is wrong and then we can go from there.

    Hi Dawn ...

It sounds like you're doing a bit already to keep yourself moving.

I was going to mention more low-impact exercises like biking, but you have that in your list. You'll definitely help your weight-loss cause by including some resistance training, even if it's just lifting those gallons and feed containers a few more times than usual. I'm sure you've probably heard it before, but building muscle helps your body burn more calories, even at rest.

Also, have you ever heard of glucosamine? Great for joints, and it may help. While it's not a quick fix (usually takes a few weeks to really notice a difference for most people), it may be something you want to consider or at least do some research on.

Tammy, already have been taking probiotics and supplements, guess that's why I don't understand why I'm not getting any results. Thanks.

    hlthnut,
I'm just finding out that natural progesterone can cause negative effects from you and Antoinette on another thread. Thanks for the info--I'll be more observant with any changes.

Perservere. Sometimes it can take a long time. I had one doc tell me my problem was normal female pattern balding. I went to another doc and he ran a bunch of tests and found my problem.

Another thought: the Enlita lessons talk about leaky gut. Is it possible you are malnurished? I heard Dr. Andrew Weil say that it takes about 8 weeks to see the results of any natural treatment. Maybe after a couple of months of supplements and probiotics you'll see a change (I hope).

    Just my thoughts.

It is natural progesterone. I am very curious to try it, but I will wait until I give the enzymes a try. Thank for the response.

    Antoinette,
I had no idea that progesterone could do that! I also read on another thread that it made someone gain weight. Is this natural progesterone or synthetic? Maybe I'm just lucky--or I have a different cause of my problems. I'll have to watch for other symptoms.

    Thanks!

Hi, can you tell me what week the testing is complete?

Also, if we showed sensitivity to a food and need to retest, will we be prompted to do that in the future weeks lessons/menus, or do we need to make arrangements for that on our own?

    TIA,

If the fish oil is fresh and a lemon or orange flavor, it should not taste yucky...have you tried the Carlson's brand?
MSM is a naturally-occurring sulfur compound that can help with inflammation and allergies.
    Dr. Winnie Abramson

Hi, yes it is Carlson's lemon flavor but still.... it's not too bad going down but sometimes after taking it I burp and it's not so good the 2nd time around, lol.

I will get the MSM, thanks!

Thank you Tammy, I have been investigating the use of progesterone cream, but the placement of the fibroids is such that it could stimulate their growth, so in the meantime I will try an enzymatic formula and focus on the reduction of the estrogen content in my body.

    Thank you for your response.

To be honest, the only way I've dealt with this is to use progesterone cream. Also, I can't go anywhere near non-organic meat or dairy. I have a reaction to the hormones and wind up in the hosptital with gastritis. Gastritis may not sound bad, but it's swelling of the abdominal area internally. It swelled bad enough to cut off blood supply to my appendix causing appendicitis and I eventually had to have it removed.

I'm hoping that as I lose weight, my hormones will normalize.

Anyone else have suggestions? I'm open.

  • Coffee Addiction   16 years 7 weeks ago

    Hi Dawn,
I feel your pain. I don't know how Dr. Abramson feels about this, but I purchased a sublingual form of melatonin and take that each night before I go to sleep. It took about 2 weeks, but I began sleeping better. Not perfect, but definitely better. Before I couldn't sleep more than 2 hours at a time. Now I can sleep from 5-8 hours--not every night, but enough to keep me functional.

Hey Doc--what do you think? Is it ok to continue on this?

I am sorry, Tammy, that you had such a rough week! I am glad to see, however, that you are getting "right back on that horse"! I am sure your perseverance will reward you in the end!

I have been thinking of starting over myself . . . I actually felt better when all allergens were out of my diet!

I'll be rooting for you, Tammy!

This is the biggie in red:

    Quote:
Make sure to get good sleep, eat mini-meals and have protein and good fat with each meal and use Himalayan salt...these are the basics that along with the supplements will help replenish the adrenals.

I am doing the mini meals or grazing, good protein and fats with each, and I am using Real Salt (does that brand work?)

As far as sleep, I walk around each day feeling like a zombie, only to fall asleep and then wake up around 1-2 in the morning. I am too tired to get up. My body is wiped, it is just my mind that's doing somersaults.

    I appreciate you!

Tammy, I had used progestrone a few years ago and just gained weight. Didn't help the hair. That's actually when the hairloss started.
