    Hi hlthnut
I'm no doctor, but I had the same problem awhile back. It was the result of low progesterone and low thyroid. I wen to the doc and he gave me progestorone cream and armour thyroid pills. I don't know if that's what you have, but it's a starting point anyway. I think the Enlita lessons mention other causes of this, but I'm not sure where.

    I hope this helps!

  • How do you stop eating sweets when you deserve a reward?   16 years 37 weeks ago

    Dawn,
These are all excellent ideas. I agree eating out isn't really a reward unless the food is excellent quality with Enlita-approved choices. Otherwise the meal you choose as a reward may just set back your progress and it's just not worth it...buying something special to make at home is best, if possible, or choose non-food rewards as you say. I too am addicted to knitting (even though I'm just a beginner) and treating myself to some nice yarn to create something makes me very happy! And I couldn't agree with you more-I wish knitting could qualify as real exercise!

Freezing ground flax is a very good idea- it will keep them fresh for much longer.

We have the tyrosine and adrenal repair supplement recommended by Dr. Pearsall in the Enlita store. Start with the dose on the bottle(s), but if your adrenal fatigue is very severe, you may need a bit more. Make sure to get good sleep, eat mini-meals and have protein and good fat with each meal and use Himalayan salt...these are the basics that along with the supplements will help replenish the adrenals.

    Hi everyone!
I fell of the wagon this week. I've found that if I eat any grains or sweets at all, I will go nuts over them. It was pizza and fun food all week! I gained the weight back I lost in the first couple of weeks. Also, like Dawn, I've been reacting--my body gets itchy all over and I get some bumps on my hands and legs (hives?). But I'm looking on the bright side. I've learned not to eat these foods in a way that's likely to stick!

I'm starting over at week one (so I can do the whole 4 weeks of elimination) and I'm bound and determined to hit it hard this time!

I'm glad the weather is getting better. I need to get out more. :D

    Hi Dawn,
I switched doctors when I moved to CO. I had the ALCAT done back in 2004, so my new doc wanted to see if anything changed for those four allergens (it did-a new allergy) and he wanted to see if I was celiac. Two out of three antibodies isn't conclusive. I'd need an invasive procedure to know for sure. I'll just stay off the gluten. 8)

    Dawn,

I am glad you are getting spring! We are burrowing out of a foot of snow :( I have spring fever and can't wait till it gets warm finally. In case you're wondering, I live in Ohio, where the storm just sat over us from 10am friday till about 7pm on Saturday. What a mess.

Anyway, I am better about the diet for now. I hit 20 lbs this week :D So that is a big motivator to stick with it. But I am like you, I can't go out and stay on plan. I am getting very tired of salads and need to take a break from them for a little while. The other side of that is without the salads I can't get enough raw veggies in. I feel sooooo much better when I eat alot of raw foods.

I hope your hives are going away quickly. I can't stand to itch, that has got to be the worst. Whenever I have any type of reactions to medications, I usually end up with them. YECH! On the flip side, what a great reason to eat healthy!! Look on the bright side, your body is insisting that you be healthy, so your optimal choice is to.......eat great food that nourishes you. You have a built in diet regulator LOL. So here's to you and your great defense against the evil food powers. You can do this and feel wonderful!!!! No more hives for you!!

    Have a great day!!!!!

Just to add to Tammy's suggestion, I also grind whole flax seed. I grind up enough to last a couple of days at a time and then I store it in the freezer. It is probably better to just make enough for immediate consumption, but I wonder what your thoughts are on freezing the ground flax?

    How are you all doing?

I hope you all are back on/still on track and doing well! Have you noticed your endurance level increasing for exercise? The weather is starting to warm up here in patches, so I have been getting out and walking, riding my bike, and working outside more. That feels GOOD!

I have fallen of the diet, suffered for it, and am back on track! Friday night I had one slice of cheese pizza at a meeting (felt AWFUL all night digestively as well as HIVES!). THEN, the next day was the El Paso County Assembly and I went to a fast food place and had a STROMBOLI along with one bite of cheesecake. Neither tasted good at all, so I don't know why I bothered, but I did. Felt terrible all the rest of the day, hives on my arms and back, itchy swollen eyes, and THIRSTY like crazy. I need to get MUCH BETTER at having things to take with me to eat while I am out. I am terrible at that!

Once our house is done being built, things will be easier. For now, I have to rely on what I can make in a crockpot or grill.

What's up with all of you? I hope spring is coming to your area and with it warm sunny days!

  • How do you stop eating sweets when you deserve a reward?   16 years 37 weeks ago

You know, I am really NOT a sweets person. I *am* a "sweet person" LOL (or at least I try to be!), but I tend to not care for sweets.

Okay. I love chocolate, and CRAVE a good cream brulee or cheesecake, but other than that, I really can do without.

For our rewards, we usually plan a dinner out to celebrate or go to some fun event or shopping somewhere. (My daughter's birthday celebration last year was at a local Barnes and Noble! No cake or ice cream, her special day was to be able to just browse books to her hearts content.)

I can see that I need to change the Dinner Out reward focus because it is still centering on food! And not the good organic, grass-finished, variety we are now committed to eating either. We're talking Texas Road House, Red Lobster, etc. They are my favorite places to go for a special reward.

Well, I have another terrible, terrible addiction . . . KNITTING. It would be no hardship AT ALL to have a reward of a trip to the knit shop or to attend a knitting class.

So, I will strive to have our rewards be of the "trip to the park" nature or to a special event, and NOT to a special restaurant. If we plan on a special dinner, we'll plan to make it a family reward in our own kitchen using good food choices! And . . . if I feel like I deserve an even more special reward than that . . . I'll treat myself to some yummy yarn!

    Tammy,

After having the ALCAT done, what is the reason you also had the Food Intolerance Panel done? Does one show something that the other does not?

I am having such mixed results, that I think I need to back up my Allergy Elimination Challenge with lab testing. Thanks for sharing that info!

    Tammy,
I buy the flax seeds and throw them in my Vitamix (you can use a coffee grinder too). This way I know it's fresh and I get the fiber too! It's not exactly the same, but it's pretty versatile. I use ground flaxseeds in my smoothies and on my salad. I used to put it on my oatmeal. If all goes well when I get to that point (i.e. no allergy), I do it again. :D

PS: I like your name and I'm glad to see you spell it the right way

    Dawn and Dawniebug,

I used to live just outside NYC (in NJ) and worked in Manhatten. Dr. Joel Furhman is a great doctor if you're willing to cross the bridge to NJ. I didn't go to him personally, but have friends who do (they love him) and I read Dr. Furhman's book.

I moved to Colorado Springs in 2006. I tried an NMD in the area but after $7500 and no results, I stopped going. Now I go to Dr. Kucera (MD) and love him. My chiropractor is in Littleton--his name is Randy James.

    I hope this helps!

  • How do you stop eating sweets when you deserve a reward?   16 years 37 weeks ago

I haven't figured out how to do this yet. I handle celebration and depression the same way--eating comfort food. So this is all new to me. I guess I'll go shopping.

Along with changing my eating habits, my hubby and I have decided to go on a budget. We give ourselves an allowance to used anyway we want so we don't fee deprived. I can use that money to reward myself.

I'll get a pair of shoes or my hair highlighted when I reach a goal --or go to the Dollar store for reeaching a smaller goal. I don't go all the time and sometimes I find some good stuff--baskets and such.

I was called a Food Intolerance Panel and I was tested for Milk, Soy and Egg along with Gliadin. The result just had a result of '2' for the Gliadin. It didn't say with which two antibodies I tested positive. My MD ordered it and I had the blood taken at one of those labs like LabCorp or Quest. I also had an ALCAT which showed a severe intolerance to gliadin.

    I hope this helps!

  • Hello, Just joined Enlita & love it   16 years 37 weeks ago

    Hi Dawniebug, welcome!

I am in Week 7 of Enlita and I'm loving it too. I can't believe how good the food is. It's so satifying - the only time I have hunger is when I'm triggered to emotional eating. Even sometimes I've looked at a recipe and thought it sounded horrible but it ends up being fabulous 99% of the time. I can't tell you the value I place on the Enlita staff having gathered these recipes & menus and shopping lists. I mean, I have a a whole slew of cookbooks on my shelf and the recipes don't even come close to being as good. I've lost 18 lbs. Good luck to ya.

  • Food Addictions   16 years 37 weeks ago

    Tammy,
I am very much the same way. I think everyone is different, but personally over time I have just eaten fewer and fewer grains and do better with that- eating them only 1-2 times per week or less (and usually having those with no gluten)...I do eat something with wheat or spelt occasionally but not much. I am fine if I eat fruit and I eat plenty of it- it does not provoke the same kind of addicitve response for me...so I just get my carbs mostly from fruits and starchy veggies, some beans and lentils, and this works for me. It may be related to your gluten sensitivity for sure, and it may improve over time, but if you try eliminating the grains you may find you don't want them anymore.

  • "allergic shiners"   16 years 37 weeks ago

I had psoriasis for as long as I could remember up until I was in my mid-twenties. At that time (20 yrs ago) I started eating healthier because I had a boyfriend (now husband) who was an athlete. I've never heard of someone who actually got rid of psoriasis like me, but later I've heard that is is related to allergies and the immune system. Maybe I stopped eating something I was allergic to (I gave up soda around the same time), so it's possible for you to see a change like that too. I hope it works out well for you.

I tested positive for 2 out of 3 antibodies for gluten. Does that mean that I need to stay off gluten or is it a sensitivity?

    Hi Dawn,

I am in New York. Have you checked with the American Association of Drugless Practitoners? or the Amercian Holistic Health Association? They have listings and referrals for Doctors of Naturopathic, and Holistic Practitioners of varied healing modalities including Nutritional Counselors.

    Good luck!

    You new friend in NY,
