  • Coconut Oil   16 years 23 weeks ago

Yes there are so many varieties it can be quite confusing! Organic virgin coconut oil is recommended because it is the best tasting and is not heat processed so retains the benefits of a raw food. With "traditional", the minimal processing uses a bit of heat but it is still an excellent product. Refined expeller pressed is more heat processed and more processed in general but some people like to use it for high heat cooking/baking as it costs less so is more economical for these purposes. But if you only want to buy one, get the best and get it in a large size to cut down on cost- the organic virgin.

  • Help! I've blown it!   16 years 23 weeks ago

Oh, man, I'm sorry. I haven't even started yet because I'm afraid I'll do the same thing.

I'm guessing that you'll have to start over because it's an elimination diet the first couple of weeks, and you need to re-introduce the eliminated foods in a structured way. Wait for the official view, though; I'm just guessing.

At least you know you can get through the first two weeks! :)

  • Looking for friends and support   16 years 23 weeks ago

It would be great to have someone to "chat" with about this program and bounce ideas around with. I've discovered I can't follow the plan as well as I thought I could. How is it going for you?

I don't know how much I can help you with this "blog" thing. It's my first time too.

  • Exercise Equipment   16 years 23 weeks ago

    Hello,
Brandon forwarded this reponse to your question:

I understand how finances can be tight and lot of equipment may not be feasible at the time, however I highly suggest you get a heavier set of dumbbells which only cost a few bucks at a target or wal-mart perhaps 5lbs, and a medicine ball is not needed you can use a dumbbell to replace the resistance. Good luck.

  • How do you stop eating sweets when you deserve a reward?   16 years 23 weeks ago

    Are sweets really a reward?
I don't think causing damage to your organs, brain chemistry, blood sugars, GI tract...every part of your body is a reward. It's a punishment. Besides the pleasure of eating sweets only lasts a few seconds and then you spend a lifetime trying to get rid of the damage.

    Why not consider other rewards?
I LOVE to take time out to meditate each day. I love to take walks in nature. I love to call up a witty friend for a laugh. I love to sing along with my favorite Broadway Musicals. Have you seen the musical Wicked?--now THAT'S a reward!
I used to be a huge sugar junkie and I thought sugar was a source of pleasure. But it really isn't. It caused me a great deal of guilt, pain, weight gain, addiction, mood swings, sadness, cravings and poor health.

Please remember that next time you want to reward yourself. You deserve better than that.
Keep me posted on your progress!

  • Self-sabotage when things go well.   16 years 23 weeks ago

This is very common. There is probably a biochemical and nutritional deficiency that may be partially to blame. We will cover that over our emotional eating teleseminar series.
Could be an emotional component too.
You need to take some deep breaths, get centered and make a list of all the reasons why you don't want to lose weight and make lifestyle changes.
Some of the reasons may be:
    1. I don't want to give up my favorite comfort foods.
    2. I don't want to be left with a void when I stop emotional eating.
    3. I'm afraid I will fail.
    4. I'm afraid to be thin.
    5. I don't think I'm capable of doing this.
    6. I'm addicted to my junk foods.
    7. I can't face my emotional pain.

Stick with our program and you'll kick this habit.

  • I eat when I am tired   16 years 23 weeks ago

When you are feeling tired, it is normal to want to eat to eat for an energy boost. Fatigue can be one of the symptoms of hunger but I assume you are not hungry.
You say eating does not work. Why keep eating then?
1st you need to figure out if your fatigue is a real problem.
2nd find out what the cause is
3rd what are other ways to get energy?

Are you taking a high quality multi like Optimal Health Ultra?
Have you tried Royal Matcha Green Tea?
    Getting enough protein?
    Are your overworked?
    Sleep Deprived?
There are so many possiblities. Perhaps you can work on this with one of our Enlita Coaches in our soon to be announced coaching program.

  • Eating while watching TV   16 years 23 weeks ago

Why are you keeping that kind of junk food in your house? Carb addiction is like drug addiction. You really need to go cold turkey and get it out of your house while you go through withdrawal and allow your body to recover.
Watching TV and eating carbs has become a habit for you just like brushing your teeth. How do you break habits?
You break habits first by setting goals. Put it in writing. Come up with a reward everytime you are able to successfully watch TV without the carbs.
Try doing something else to keep your mind off food--like stretching or weight lifting.
Do EFT to eliminate cravings before you sit down to watch TV.
Perhaps you can avoid TV until you get through your withdrawal period.
Don't watch the commercials--filled with junk food ads.
I know you can kick this habit Alice. we're all rooting for you. Please keep us updated on your progress.

  • Sensitivity to Nightshades   16 years 23 weeks ago

Thank you for bringing up this issue. Please know that the menus/recipes are a work in progress and we are constantly revising them. We will take your comments into account and figure out how to address this problem. In the meantime, please know that any and all vegetables and fruits are allowed (exept for corn) and can be substitutes for any ingredients that are problematic for you. Do not eat anything you are sensitive to. I hope this helps,
    Dr. Winnie Abramson

  • Whey Healthier   16 years 24 weeks ago

If you are ok with the assumption that you are dairy sensitive and plan to continue to avoid it, I would say it is fine to skip the dairy test day. You might want to test goat or sheep milk products, but it sounds like you are ok with goat milk, and yes I would continue to use the goat protein powder you have.
Thank you for the positive comments- we are working hard to make the program the best it can be,
    Dr. Winnie Abramson

  • Whey Healthier   16 years 24 weeks ago

    Winnie

I have two questions. Should I not even bother challenging dairy since I am having this reaction to the Whey Healthier?
Is it okay for me to use Garden of Life's Goatein protein since it does not cause any symptoms.

You guys have changed my life. Thank you for all your time and effort putting this program together. I am telling everyone about the program.

  • Whey Healthier   16 years 24 weeks ago

It is possible you are sensitive to the whey healthier. It is a very pure product and works for most people, but it sounds like you should avoid it for the time being. We will have a completely non-dairy alternative in the store soon.

  • Seeds   16 years 24 weeks ago

Poppy seeds are much too small to eat the way you would eat sunflower and pumpkin seeds- they are generally used to add flavor and crunch to baked goods and that is about it. Chia seeds can be eaten as a snack though, and they have an excellent nutritional profile. Some seeds such as quinoa, teff, and amaranth act more like grains and so we recommend them cooked as such, and not raw as snacks...

  • Seeds   16 years 24 weeks ago

Sunflower and Pumpkin are the seeds that I have. I hoped there were others that I just didn't know about so I'd have a greater variety to choose from. What about Poppy seeds?

  • Seeds   16 years 24 weeks ago

Seeds such as sunflower and pumpkin seeds are inexpensive, readily available and highly nutritious. Basically any nuts and seeds besides peanuts/peanut butter...fresh and unsalted (you can roast them yourself on low heat with some himalayan salt...Does this answer your question?

  • Amaranth   16 years 24 weeks ago

Yes it turns out much smaller than popcorn. Feel free to try it out whenever you like- there is no reason not to- amaranth is gluten-free and very hypoallergenic so if you're past the third week you can go ahead and try some! Let us know how you like it.

  • EATING WELL BUT CAN'T LOSE WEIGHT   16 years 24 weeks ago

  • Food Tastes Better   16 years 24 weeks ago

I am so encouraged reading the posts some of you have sent in. Just to see what would happen, I tried eating a candy bar the other day. It tasted terrible. I really enjoy the taste of "real" food and don't want to mess with the stuff I used to eat.

Thanks to all of you for helping me realize I am not in this alone. I would love to end up with a supportive group, but don't quite know how to accomplish this.

    Chat with you later.

  • EATING WELL BUT CAN'T LOSE WEIGHT   16 years 24 weeks ago

I am so pleased to see weight coming off of me with literally no effort except what it takes to organize the buying of food. I think the food allergy issue is mostly what has been plaguing me all these years. I don't eat wheat and most grains but in the last week I have stopped eating yogurt and cheese. I no longer have the incessant hunger that nothing can satisfy which I have had most of my life. It is such a blessing not to feel addicted to food and continue to chastise myself for my lalck of will power and being against myself. I feel so good about this way of eating and am so grateful to you all at Enlita for putting together such a wonderful health-enhancing package. Let's hope it continues to work for me. Thank you ALL!

  • Amaranth   16 years 24 weeks ago

So, it's not actually a snack--like popcorn, but more of a topping? From your reply it sounds like the popped grain is actually small. However, large or small, when the Enlita program allows it, I would like to try it out; a crunchy topping on salads sounds interesting!

  • Amaranth   16 years 24 weeks ago

Yes it can be popped. I myself have not tried it this way but I imagine you could add it to a soup or salad as a crunchy topping!

  • Today is Hard   16 years 24 weeks ago

Awesome job- that is so wonderful to hear!

  • Today is Hard   16 years 24 weeks ago

Thank you for the words of encouragement. I want to say that your advice was right on! I was able to resist all temptations on Halloween and came away successful. First, there were goodies galore at work -- homemade fudge, cookies, cupcakes, breads, candies, etc. Then I had to go home and give out candy bars to the trick-or-treaters. Needless to say, I gave out my two favorites -- BUT I did not indulge. The very next day I got the extra candy out of my house and brought it to work. The bars are in a candy dish on my desk for all to help themselves, but to me they are invisible. I am able to resist the treats and stick to the progr4am.

  • Restarting after illness   16 years 24 weeks ago

Thanks Dr. Abramson - I did go off the elimination diet, so I'll restart from the beginning.
