I, Dr. Winifred Abramson, have been increasing the amount of raw foods in my diet and “green smoothies” are one of my current favorite meals—I have one for breakfast almost every day.

Green smoothies are basically a blend of fruit and leafy greens and are a great way to add more nutrient-dense foods to your diet. I like to start by blending a banana (or some apple, pineapple, mango) with some frozen berries and then I add my greens: I usually go for chopped romaine lettuce, a small head of baby bok choy, or a few handfuls of baby spinach, none of which you can really taste once they are all blended up. Add some coconut oil to promote weight loss and optimal health, Whey Protein for protein, and make your smoothie even “greener” by adding 1 Tb. of Spectra Greens, if you like.

For those of you who want to cut down on your carbohydrate intake and increase your dietary fiber. Miracle Noodles are made from konjac glucomannan—a root vegetable that is almost entirely fiber. They have zero carbs and zero calories and they are high in fiber—making them a wonderful food for weight loss and diabetes. Konjac root has been used for centuries in Japan and China.

Q: I’ve heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life; is this true?
A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that’s it... Don’t waste them on exercise. Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer; that’s like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer? Take a nap.

I recently turned 60 and had decided to have an exhaustive physical
examination including lab tests and other probing unpleasantries.

At the review appointment, my Doctor said I was doing "fairly well" for my age.

A little concerned about that comment, I couldn’t resist asking him,
"Do you think I will live to be 80?"

Having trouble getting starting on an exercise program? Many of you drink coffee or black tea to help you wake up and get going in the morning. However, none of you coffee drinkers would need to do that if you started your day with a good morning exercise routine.
